NAWEL

NAWEL combines classical realist painting with contemporary Pop language and photography. The care taken in her trained hand along with an intimate understanding of the fashion industry brings a certain honesty to her paintings. Nawel's realist oil paintings perfectly capture the figures the artist intends to depict, expressing sentimentality in the model's visage. Nawel offers the viewer an inside-look at the fashion industry by representing models romantically adorned, but isolated. It is Nawel's unique background as an illustrator, designer and artist that has informed her distinctive style of painting. Born in Paris, the fashion industry led Nawel to Tokyo via Milan in her professional life. Although Nawel worked in couture for a decade, she continued painting during that time, inspired by her formal training at Les arts appliques in Paris.

Nawel has collaborated with: Vogue, Numero, Citizen K, L'Officiel, Mi(x)te, Spoon, Jalouse, Le Figaro, Cosmo Girl, BlackBook, Composite Magazine, Flair, Io Donna, GQ, Sleek and commissions for Levis, Nike, and Hermès..

Her mentors include: Guy Laroche's house of couture, and stylist/costume designers Martin Margiela and Fifi Chachnil..
